An Ecumenical and Inclusive Fellowship of the United Methodist Church

United Methodist Women

The UMW of Community Church consist of three groups - the General Meeting, Candle Light Circle, and Dorcas Craft Circle – which strive to fulfill the purpose of the worldwide organization of United Methodist Women.

The General Meeting

On the third Tuesday of each month at 12 noon, our parent group meets to further know God by reciting the United Methodist Women’s Purpose, reading from the Prayer calendar and selected scripture from the Bible, sharing a “Response Moment,” as well as participating in a pertinent educational program.  Several members continue to participate in the UMW Reading program and have received certificates of recognition from the District. Our UMW is also a Five Star Unit, recognized for our giving to mission.

Raising funds for missions is one of our priorities.  We currently support 19 different local organizations, including Appalachia Service Project, Backpack Program, Habitat for Humanity, HALO Shelter, and Small Miracles.  Members provide funds and dinners once a month for the Young Moms of the Eastern Shore at Community Church.

Dorcas Craft Circle

The Dorcas Craft Circle meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 12 noon.  We make neck scarves for the homeless, dialysis sleeves and piglet pillows for cancer patients, and baby hats and blankets for newborns in the area.  We also crochet and knit prayer squares for the Pastors, Stephen Ministers, and Congregational Care Committee members to distribute to the home bound and hospitalized. This year Dorcas Circle refurbished the colorful ribbons in the hymnals.

Candle Light Circle

Candle Light Circle meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 P.M.  We share fellowship as we study the Bible together.  Our activities include sharing birthdays at the Berlin Nursing Home, and supporting Diakonia, Sarah’s Pantry, and Worcester County G.O.L.D.  We hold an annual barbeque sale to raise money for missions and support the Angel Tree program.

A closing prayer and benediction for the United Methodist Women is: “May the blessings of God Almighty, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, rest upon us and all our work and worship done in his name.  May he give us light to guide us, courage to support us, and love to us, now and forever more. Amen.”
